Regarding Karina Miller Nature Preserve.
Karina Miller Nature Preserve Opens at Little Mulberry Park
Lawrenceville, Ga., Sept. 13, 2006 - The 200-acre Karina Miller Nature Preserve will open on Sept. 15 as Phase II of Little Mulberry Park opens to the public. The preserve includes the steepest portion of the ridge, as well as designated areas along the lakeshore for fishing, and is home to many native Georgia plants and wildlife. Signs will be located along the trail to let people know when they are entering the preserve. The preserve is named in honor of the property's previous owners, Atlanta residents James and Karina Miller, who owned a 404-acre portion of the park, located north of Dacula, before selling the land to Gwinnett County in 2001. The plot was added to the original park site, bringing the total acreage of Little Mulberry Park to 890 acres and making it the second largest park in the county.
Both Karina and James Miller are very active in the community and have dedicated many hours to a variety of charitable causes.
In addition to the Karina Miller Nature Preserve, patrons who pass through the Little Mulberry Park gates will find miles of walking and equestrian/hiking trails. Also included in the new amenities are a 2.2-mile paved, multi-purpose, handicap-accessible trail around the lake with designated shoreline fishing areas, approximately four miles of equestrian trails, a paved connector trail to the rest of Little Mulberry Park on the Fence Road side of the property, and a restroom facility. An equestrian only parking lot on Mineral Springs Road and a main parking lot for all other park uses on Hog Mountain Road have also been added.
GCPR staff will be present at Little Mulberry Park on Friday, Sept. 15 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to distribute park information, giveaways, refreshments, and answer any questions about the park.
Little Mulberry Park is located at 3855 Fence Rd. in Auburn, Ga., with an equestrian only entrance located at 1300 Mineral Springs Road.
The mission of Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation is to provide quality parks and leisure activities to the citizens of Gwinnett County.
