The road and river below led to Albany. They were Burgoyne’s invasion route. Americans watched and waited here for him to come.

2. Marker on the Saratoga Battlefield
The fortifications at this site, and the river fortifications below, closed the road to Albany to the British and prompted Cornwallis to attack the Americans at Freeman's Farm.
