War Hero Memorial Pinery. .
The Bloomsburg State Normal School Class of 1919 dedicated this memorial to 16 former students - 15 soldiers and a nurse - who died during World War I. It included sixteen trees in the shape of a six-pointed star, one for each of the fallen. By the 21st Century, only eight trees, a flagpole, and a boulder remained. In the Spring of 2002, students from the History Department and their friends set out to raise money to restore the memorial. BU Artisans planted new trees and added sixteen bronze name plaques, which now grace the newly designed brick deck -- shaped like a six-pointed star. Two larger plaques are exhibited on the exterior walls of Schuylkill Dorm, since the location of the building made it impossible to replant those trees. The commitment of Bloomsburg University students, faculty, staff, administrators, and friends made this restoration possible.
