The marker and bust are in a small park in downtown Castries which is kept locked, so a closer photo of the marker was not possible. Note the remains of decorations left at his monument on the anniversary of his death on April 7.

participated in the War of Independence of Venezuela, under the orders of Simón Bolívar and General Santiago Marino. He accompanied Bolívar on his expedition from Haiti to Venezuela, and saved the life of Simón Bolívar from drowning on July 14, 1816, in Ocumare de la Costa, in the central region of Venezuela. On April 7, 1817, he gave his life for the cause of Venezuelan independence in Cumana, Venezuela.
