1. Site of Old Spearman's Ferry Marker
Inscription. Click to hear the inscription.  Operated along with a mill by E. B. Smith during the Republic of Texas. Bought by John Spearman in 1850. At this site in 1870 the state authorized a toll bridge. Fees ranged from 2 for a sheep to $1 for an 8-horse team and loaded wagon. This was at Big Cypress Bayou on Pittsburg-Jefferson Stage Road.
 
Erected 1966 by State Historical Survey Committee. (Marker Number 7857.)
 
Location. 32° 54.555′ N, 94° 42.813′ W. Marker is in Lone Star, Texas, in Morris County. Marker is on U.S. 259 0.2 miles north of Lone Star Park Road, on the right when traveling north. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Lone Star TX 75668, United States of America.
