September 19th, 1863, Noon.

1st Brigade - Colonel P. Sidney Post.
2d Brigade - Brigadier General William P. Carlin
3d Brigade - Colonel Hans C. Heg.
The Second and Third Brigades of this Division reached the foot of Lookout Mountain the morning of September 17th, the First Brigade being left at the mountain with the trains. From the morning of the 17th to the evening of the 18th the Division held a position in front of Dug Gap with Sheridan's Division on its right at the Bailey's Cross Roads. Late in the evening of the 18th it camped between Pond Spring and Crawfish Springs. Early on the 19th the Division was ordered to the left and reached this point at noon. It was immediately moved eastward under orders from General Rosecrans, to find and attack the left flank of the enemy east of Viniard's House. At the latter place it was heavily engaged from 2 p.m. until after 5 o'clock, being reinforced by Wilder's Mounted Infantry Brigade, and by troops from Wood's and Sheridan's Divisions. Thus strengthened, the Union line, which had been driven west of the LaFayette Road in turn forced the enemy into the woods east of the road at sunset.

this marker. I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
