Deformación corporal
Los antiguos huastecos colocaban vendajes y entablillados en los cráneos de los niños pequeños para conseguir con el paso del tiempo cierta forma deseada a la cabeza. Lo que aunado a un limado de la dentadura, los convertía en una figura respetable y respetada en su comunidad, pues esto era un privilegio reservado a ciertos individuos.
El análisis de un entierro que se encontró en este lugar ha permitido obtener valiosa información de esta práctica, además de confirmar la alta jerarquía del individuo dentro del grupo, sirvió para conocer la filiación cultural de los constructores de Tancama, pues presentaba deformación craneana y mutilación dentaria catalogadas como típicamente huastecas. Las prácticas de deformación del cráneo y la mutilación dental pueden parecernos extrañas, sin embargo en la historia del ser humano las modificaciones corporales han sido constantes. The ancient Huastecans placed bandages and splints on the skulls of young children to achieve a desired shape over time. When combined with the filing of their teeth, this made them a respectable figure in their community, because this was a privilege reserved for only certain individuals.
The analysis of a burial found in this place has allowed us to obtain valuable information about this practice. In addition to confirming the high hierarchy of the individual within the group, it also served to know the cultural affiliation of the Tancama builders, since it presented cranial deformation and dental mutilation classified as typically Huastecan. The practices of deformation of the skull and dental mutilation may seem strange, however throughout human history corporal modifications have been constant. In the search for beauty and bodily perfection, people from different cultures of the world have changed their bodies. In Western contemporary culture, tattoos, perforations, plastic surgeries and aesthetic dental treatments are practiced daily. Which makes us wonder: Who is the deformed?
