Mayer has served as an educator, coach, sports broadcaster, and sports trainer in the Williamsport area for over four decades. In 1988, he was named the National Secondary School Physical Education Teacher of the Year. He retired from Pennsylvania College of Technology with Professor Emeritus honors. While he has hosted numerous sports shows on television over the years, Mayer is best known for his career as a sports analyst on WRAK radio and his weekly spot on Cable Sports Productions' Game of the Week, which has been on the air for over 30 years.
