Bate's Brigade
Stewart's Division - Buckner's Corps.
Brigadier General William B. Bate.
September 19, 1863, 3:30 p.m.

58th Alabama - Colonel Bushrod Jones.
37th Georgia - Colonel A.F. Rudler.
4th Georgia Battalion Sharpshooters - Major T.D. Caswell.
15th Tennessee - Colonel R.C. Tyler.
37th Tennessee - Colonel R.C. Tyler.
20th Tennessee - Colonel Thomas B. Smith.
Eufaula (Alabama) Battery - Captain McDonald Oliver.

Bate's Brigade relieved Brown's about 3:30 o'clock, on this ground. It first encountered Grose's Brigade, and next struck portions of Edward King's Brigade, and after severe fighting pushed them back through the Poe Field. The left of the Brigade crossed the Lafayette Road and forced troops extended by Reynolds upon his left out of their line, capturing a battery of three guns. This portion of Bate's troops was soon withdrawn in consequence of the appearance of Brannan's Division in rear of Reynolds. The three right regiments of the Brigade, swinging somewhat further to the north, upon entering the Poe Field, encountered a fire from twenty guns supported by troops rallied from Grose's and King's Brigades, and were there checked and turned back with heavy losses.

this marker.
In locating this tablet I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this tablet and the tablet's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
