Location. 34° 55.626′ N, 85° 16.201′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Walker County. Marker can be reached from Vittetoe Road west of Glenn-Kelly Road, on the right when traveling west. This marker is located in the national park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield, on the southern slope of Snodgrass Hill, near the southern crest, near the front of the 35th Ohio Infantry monument. More about this marker. According to the description information provided by the National Park Service, the marker is, “A simple, rectangular, rock-faced block mounted on a rock-faced base, 3' wide x 2' high x 1.5' deep, with a smooth-faced area on the top that carries an inscription. Marks regiment's position on September 20, 1863."
In locating this marker I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this marker and the marker's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
