Inscription. Native Texas stone. Built by contractor Henry Kane, by plans drawn by Eugene T. Heiner, architect. Cost was $21,660.20. Accepted by the county commissioners court on January 28, 1887, the Hon. Everett Lewis presiding.

Still used as county jail.
 
Erected 1966 by State Historical Survey Committee. (Marker Number 2218.)
