Several Indian villages exist on the Island, and large collections of Indian artifacts have been found here. Largest of the sites, a Fort Ancient village, has now been washed away by the Ohio River, but smaller ones still remain. Artifacts found on the Island indicate occupation dating from 10,000 years ago.
