Regarding John Hall. Lewis Wetzel was the editor of the Point Pleasant newspaper the Register. “During the political campaign of 1862, John Hall, who had presided over the constitutional convention, and his friends were subjected to bitter Register attacks written by Lewis Wetzel. Hall, enraged, shot and killed the journalist. He was subsequently adjudged guilty of involuntary manslaughter, and fined $4,000 and costs.” —West Virginia History, 1944, page 135.
