Inscription. This full-size model stands upon the remains of a wooden house built by the Seneca in the 1670s or 1680s.

The modern tubes have been erected over the location of postmolds discovered through archaeological excavation in 1984. The diameter of each aluminum tube is equal to that of an original wooden post. The tube heights suggest the typical proportions of an Iroquois longhouse. The endwalls rise a height equal to the width of the house and the sidewalls are half the height of the endwalls. The tops of the east row of tubes suggest a curved roofline and the west row a pitched roof. Both types were built by the Iroquois.

The rows of posts outline a rectangular dwelling measuring eighteen by thirty-six feet. Three fireplaces were discovered inside, one at the center and the others toward the endwalls where doorways were likely cut. There is evidence that sleeping platforms lined the longwalls. These were probably subdivided into compartments. The original floor was earthen. Where convenient, storage pits were dug into the floor.

The frame of tubes described on the marker is missing. View is eastward. NY Route 444 is just beyond the uncleared land. The makeshift barrier seems to be blocking a slippery sodden area.
