1. Jikonhsaseh Marker

Inscription. Jikonhasaseh was an elderly woman when the Peacemaker approached her to explain his mission to bring peace through reason to the nations of the world. She played a major role in the formation of the League of the Haudenosaunee. When the Peacemaker and his disciple, Hiawatha, despaired because Tadodaho, the Onondaga chief, refused to join the League, Jikonhsaseh suggested they offer him the chairmanship of the Chief's Council. When Tadodaho accepted the Great Peace, it was Jikonhsaseh who placed the horns of authority upon his brow. This act made official the formation of the Five Nations. Jikonhsaseh lived in this vicinity and is buried near here.

Marker can be reached from the intersection of Boughton Hill Road (County Route 41) and Victor Holcomb Road (New York State Route 444). Marker is at Ganondagan New York State Historic Site.
