1. Story of Little Log House Marker
Inscription.

The existence of this log house was unknown for many years because it was concealed within a large two-story frame house built over the years around the original log house. In 2002, plans were under way to demolish the larger house, move the log house and make an asphalt parking lot at this location.

However, as the demolition on the large frame structure progressed, concerned citizens initiated efforts to save this historic log house at its present location in this old section of Mifflinburg. With the help of a financial grant from the Degenstein Foundation, the house was purchased and restoration began.

Volunteer help in the restoration process included students from Pennsylvania State University, mainly those from the Integrated Arts Course under the guidance of "restoration expert" professor R. Pencek. Inmates from the Federal Penitentiary in Lewisburg and Allenwood as well as volunteers from Mifflinburg also assisted in the restoration work.

Private donations and grants have been used to restore this historic Mifflinburg log house built prior to 1836.
