Inscription. In loving and grateful tribute
to Pike County's Union Soldiers
of the Civil War, the 3,132 heroic
men who offered their lives as
sacrifice to their country, 1861-1865,
and, joining hands in common cause,
repeated the oath of America's
soldier statesman,
"By the Great Eternal,
the Union must and shall
be preserved."

Erected 1937 by Dick Gilmer Woman's Relief Corps, No. 294, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, Pittsfield, Illinois.
