The General and ex-President of Guatemala Manuel Lisandro Barillas was assassinated (at the behest of his enemy Manuel Estrada Cabrera, President of Guatemala at the time) in Mexico City in 1907. The street where he was killed was renamed Avenida República de Guatemala.
