Inscription. Frederick Reds, a once-prominent brand of bricks, were manufactured on this site between 1891 and 1946. Bricks were shipped via truck and rail to projects throughout the region. Locally, Frederick Reds were used in the construction of buildings at Hood College, Frederick High School, and many homes in the city's western residential areas. The company's largest single order was for five million bricks, which were used to construct Building 1 of the U.S. Government Printing Office (1899-1903) in Washington, D.C.
