Dedicated Thanksgiving day, 1906
Stands on the site
of the original Liberty Pole
erected July 3, 1793.

“The Training Place,”
was set apart as
the town common in 1669.

During the Civil War thousands of
men enlisted at the recruiting
tents set up in this park.
