1. Canal House Marker
Inscription.
This imposing 18-room structure is a cross between Italianate and Greek Revival architecture. It is sometimes referred to as “Foster Hall” because of its association with Stephen Foster’s family. Ephriam Baird, a Philadelphia lawyer who is buried in Riverside Cemetery here, leased this house to William Foster, Stephen’s brother from 1850 to 1852, thus the name “Foster Hall.”

It is believed the mansion-like house was built prior to 1840. One of only a few brick houses in the area, it features three porches with ionic columns and geometric cast iron grills over frieze windows.
