This library garden courtyard and fountain are dedicated to the memory of Carolyn Craig Franklin (1919–1993).

They were donated by Dr. Carl Franklin, Vice President Emeritus and Professor of Law at USC, and their four children: Craig, Sterling, Larry and Priscilla.

The Franklins joined USC in 1953, he as a law professor and she as an energetic volunteer, she served as President of Faculty Wives, 1970–1972, and Town and Gown, 1980–1982.

She was awarded the USC Presidential medallion posthumously by President Steven B. Sample for her outstanding service to USC.

Regarding The Carolyn Craig Franklin Library Garden Courtyard and Fountain. In addition to asking others for scholarship funds, she herself donated $170,000 to establish two Town and Gown scholarship endowments. She was honored by the Law Center in 1987 with the establishment of the Carolyn Craig Franklin Chair in Law.
