Elio Carmichael
Elio Carmichael Jiménez, nació en Payo Obispo, en 1935, un año antes de que la ciudad cambiara su nombre al de Chetumal. Aquí y en Belice hizo sus estudios elementales y en el Distrito Federal la carrera de pintor, egresado de la Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas, de la UNAM. Regresó a Chetumal en 1979 y dedicó siete lustros a perfeccionar su arte. Es considerado como el máximo exponente del muralismo en Quintana Roo, siendo sus obras más destacadas “Forma, Color e Historia” y “Ley”, ambos en el Congreso del Estado, así como “Defensa del Fuerte de San Felipe de Bacalar”, en el propio fuerte.

Elio Carmichael Jiménez was born in Payo Obispo in 1935, a year before the city changed its name to Chetumal. Here and in Belize he did his elementary studies and in Mexico City he studied for a career in painting, graduating from the National School of Plastic Arts of the UNAM. He returned to Chetumal in 1979 and dedicated the next 35 years to perfecting his art. He is considered to be the greatest exponent
