Inscription. Preservation efforts in the Congaree Vista have returned historic structures to their 19th- and early-20th century appearances. A perfect example is the ca. 1900 commercial structure changed dramatically for use as an automobile tire store (seen here ca. 1975). Sensitive restoration work to the building's facade involved the infill of garage bays along its west side and removing oversized signage.

Also see . . .  1001 Gervais Street. For some historic properties, preservation efforts over the past three decades have reversed or obscured major changes made to them during the mid-20th century. Nowhere is this perhaps more true than with this circa-1900 commercial structure once heavily modified for use as an automobile tire store through the creation of bays along its west side and an imposing tile sign that covered a large portion of its historic façade.
