1. Jefferson Avenue Marker
Inscription. Jefferson Avenue was initially settled in the late 1800s by German immigrants, Irish immigrants followed.

In 1888 Jefferson Avenue was formed by the connection of Frances and North Francis Streets, and renamed in honor of President Thomas Jefferson.

Shortly afterwards many of the buildings that existed up to the early twenty first century were erected.

In the 1950s a large migration of blacks moved from the south to Rochester, and many settled in the Southwest Neighborhood.
