1. Beaufort Gazette coverage, January 24, 1907: Beaufort Fire. The wind was blowing a gale, and it was soon found that the most heroic efforts of the firemen were unavailing to prevent the spread of the flames. The large hardware and supply store of N. Christensen & Sons, on the corner of Bay and Carteret streets, and the crockery stores of Mr. J. M. Crofut, next door, were burning from cellar to roof. Little could be saved, so rapid was the fire. 2. This Beaufort landmark is getting a new owner (June 2016). Fordham’s family has been in business on the corner of Bay and Carteret streets for 70 years but will be closing the doors. The building will be bought and renovated by Graham Trask and his father, George. (Submitted on June 18, 2019, by Cosmos Mariner of Cape Canaveral, Florida.)
