Ivyside Park Swimming Pool. . The Community Arts Center parking lot is located on the site of the former Ivyside Park Swimming Pool, once the world's largest concrete pool filled with three million gallons of water. The giant pool measured in at 650 feet long, 186 feet wide, and easily held 5000 swimmers at any one time and ice skaters in the winter. A tree-filled island in the center of the pool was a favorite gathering spot for swimmers. In 1948 when the Altoona Undergraduate Center (Penn State Altoona's original name) moved to Ivyside Park, the island - surrounded by parked cars instead of water - became a popular gathering and study spot for students.
