1. Sheffield Farms Creamery (Wikipedia) . The Sheffield Farms Company pasteurized, bottled, and delivered milk in New York City in the first half of the 20th century, becoming one of the largest dairy companies in the world, and selling 20% of the city's milk. The company played a major part in transforming commercial milk from a dirty, disease-spreading product into a clean and healthy one. 2. Sheffield Farms Creamery. When this creamery opened in 1892, it was the first to use the milk pasteurization process in the United States. Unprocessed milk was brought from local dairy farms in 110 lbs. cans via horse and buggy (later flatbed trucks). Until it closed in 1960, milk and milk products were shipped by rail from this location to markets in the metropolitan New York area.
