Inscription.
Beginning of February “Speedweek” format with Saturday Modified race and Sunday Grand National race, formerly strictly stock. Modified race had 17 cars crash on first lap and 6 more crash after restart. Nearly 2/3 of Modified entrants drove ’39 Fords including winner Gober Sosebee and local driver Fireball Roberts in 2nd. Harold Kite won Grand National race. Red Byron finished 2nd despite shifter and brake problems.
