Déantar cuimhneachán ar go leor daoine áitiúla móra le rá anseo. Ach bealach ar leith atá sa Mheilteoir Colmais chun comóradh a dhéanamh ar shaol laethúil mhuintir eile an tsráidbhaile.

D'úsáid siad an chloch ollmhór ar chúis anphraiticiúil: chun cabhrú lena dtithe a théamh. Bhí Mathew Colfer ar dhuine de na daoine a cheaptar a thug faoi seo. I 1911, b'oibrí feirme 50 bliain d'aois é Mathew a cheanglódh an chloch le capall agus a dhoirtfeadh 'colmas' (dramhghual crua), láib bhuí agus uisce isteach sa chlais chiorclach ansin faoina bhun. I ndiaidh an capall a shiúl timpeall, mheil an chloch gach rud ina thaos greamaitheach. Rinneadh é seo a mhúnlú ina chnapanna ubhchruthacha a d'fhéadfaí é a dhó agus tháinig deargadh geal air i ndiaidh dó triomú.

An raibh a fhios agat?
• Chabhraigh clocha ó fhoirgnimh a rinneadh a scartáil leis an ngairdín a ardú os cionn leibhéal tuile na habhann.

• Tá beagnach 500 taismeach ó Cheatharlach curtha i gcuntas ar chuimhneachán an Chogaidh Mhóir, idir Syndey George a bhí 17 mbliana d'aois agus William Byrne a bhí 53 bliana d'aois.

• Déantar cuimhneachán anseo, chomh maith,

Many notable locals are remembered here. But the Culm Crusher is a unique way to commemorate the everyday lives of the village's other inhabitants.

They used the huge stones for a very practical reason: to help warm their homes. One who may have done was Mathew Colfer. In 1911, Mathew was a 50 year old farm labourer who would have hitched a horse to the stone then poured 'culm' (waste anthracite), yellow clay and water in the circular groove beneath. Walking the horse around, the stone crushed everything into a sticky paste. This was moulded into egg-shaped lumps that could be burned and glowed intensely after drying.

And Another Thing:
• Stones from demolished buildings helped raise the garden above the river's flood level.

• The Great War memorial records nearly 500 Carlow casualties ranging from Sydney George aged 17 to William Byrne aged 53.

• Nurse Margaret Kehoe of Leighlinbridge[,] who was shot at the South Dublin Union during Easter Week 1916, is also remembered here.
