About 2:30 p.m. the Brigade came to the support of Johnson's and Gregg's Brigades then formed east and north of Vittetoe's for assaulting Snodgrass Hill. The Brigade ascended the ridge and formed a second line near the batteries of Dent and York on the summit. Upon the falling back of the first line composed of Johnson's and Gregg's Brigades McNair's Brigade mingled with those troops and the right of Manigault's line and continued to fight with them until dark following the enemy to the bottom of the ravine back of the crest on which they had fought.

Location. 34° 55.48′ N, 85° 16.51′ W. Marker is near Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, in Walker County. Marker can be reached from Chickamauga-Vittatoe Road east of Lytle Road, on the left when traveling south. This tablet is located in the National Military Park that preserves the site of the Chickamauga Battlefield, along a park walking trail that runs along the southern spur of Snodgrass Hill, from the old Vittetoe Road to the far western end of Snodgrass Hill (Horseshoe Ridge), where the far right flank of the Union line was situated. In locating this monument I used the "Chickamauga Battlefield" map, that I purchased at the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, Visitor Center, to determine both the marker number for this monument and the monument's location in relation to the rest of the park's monuments, markers, and tablets. According to the map it provides the, "numerical listing of all monuments, markers, and tablets on the Chickamauga Battlefield (using the Chick-Chatt NMP Monument Numbering System).”
