1. Democracy and the New England Planters Marker
Inscription.
To entice the Planters to settle in Nova Scotia, the British colonial administration introduced an elected legislature in 1758, a form of representative government they had long known in New England. In the decades after their settlement in Nova Scotia, the Planters and their descendants continued to press for many educational and democratic reforms, adding greatly to the success of these institutions in the province.

Pour encourager les Planters à s'installer en Nouvelle-Écosse, l'administration coloniale britannique leur a accordé dès 1758 une 1égislature élue similaire au gouvernement représentatif auquel ils étaient habitués en Nouvelle-Angleterre. Les Planters et leurs descendants ont continué de réclamer diverses réformes éducatives et démocratiques dans les décennies qui ont suivi leur arrivée en Nouvelle-Ecosse, contribuant pour beaucoup au succès de ces institutions dans la province
