1. The Friend Brothers
I am a descendant of the Friend brothers, Franklin Friend was my 3rd Great Grandfather. They were from Iowa, had gone to the Montana Territory to wait out the Civil War, they did not believe in the war itself. Franklin had bought near current day Helena for a ranch, they were on their way back to Iowa to retrieve their families and to be the Administrator of their father who had passed while they had were gone. I have copies of a letter sent to Franklin's wife from the Steam Boat's Captain explaining what had happened.
