1. 1860 Flanking Caponniere
Inscription. On the fort wall you can see the outline of a doorway and traces of two walls that tied into the brick on either side of it. This is all that remains of one of two structures built by the United States in garrison in 1860 to protect the fort's low walls. From here, cannon fire could sweep the two adjoining walls.
 
Location. 32° 45.529′ N, 79° 51.447′ W. Marker is in Sullivans Island, South Carolina, in Charleston County. Marker can be reached from Middle Street, on the right when traveling east. Touch for map. Located at Fort Moultrie National Historic Site. Marker is in this post office area: Sullivans Island SC 29482, United States of America.
