The regiment was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Nicholas L. Anderson at the battle.

6th Ohio Infantry,
Ammen's (10th) Brig., Nelson's (4th) Div.
Army of the Ohio.

This regiment formed here, to support a battery, about 6 p.m. April 6, 1862. It advanced 300 yards and bivouacked Sunday night.
 
Erected by Shiloh National Military Park Commission. (Marker Number 261.)
 
Location. 35° 8.996′ N, 88° 19.368′ W. Marker is near Shiloh, Tennessee, in Hardin County. Marker is on Pittsburg Landing Road, on the right when traveling east. Touch for map. The 6th Ohio marched up from Pittsburg Landing and deployed in this general area to shore up the Federal line.
