1. Rebel's Rest Marker
Inscription. Here, before the War Between the States, stood the frame residence of Bishop Leonidas Polk of Louisiana, a principal founder of the University of the South. Here were built in 1866 the first two log cabins of postwar Sewanee by Bishop Charles T. Quintard and Major George R. Fairbanks. In the latter were held the meeting of the trustees in 1866 and founding of the EQB Club in 1870. (Marker Number 2E 55.)
 
Location. 35° 12.321′ N, 85° 55.25′ W. Marker is in Sewanee, Tennessee, in Franklin County. Marker is on University Avenue, on the right when traveling west. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Sewanee TN 37375, United States of America.

. A large portion of the Rebel's Rest was burned in a fire on July 23, 2014. The University of the South is attempting to salvage as much of the historic building as possible. (Submitted on November 10, 2014, by J. Makali Bruton of Querétaro, Mexico.)

You can see from this slide it is the same house in the photo taken by the other gentleman. Look closely at the left side of the photo at the corner of the house. Also, compare the the roof's edge and you can see the detailed scallops.
