Inscription.

County jail, built 1884 of hand-hewn rock. Has apartment for sheriff, who is also jailer. On second floor the county library was founded.
 
Erected 1966 by State Historical Survey Committee. (Marker Number 9708.)

City of Burnet – 1883 - Historical District
This jailhouse was built in 1884 with cells upstairs and the sheriff’s office and living quarters downstairs. In continuous use to the present time, it house prisoners until 1982 when a new jail was constructed.
