3. Rockingham
One of the oldest houses in the Millstone River Valley, the original portion was built between 1702 and 1710. It was later expanded in the 1760’s by its owner, New Jersey Supreme Court Judge John Berrien.

In 1783, while the Continental Congress met in nearby Princeton, Gen. George Washington made his headquarters in this house. It was here that Washington received the news of the signing of the Treaty of Paris which ended the Revolutionary War.

Washington wrote the "Farewell Orders to the Armies of the United States" in this house. It was one of his last official acts as Commander of the Army.
