Inscription. Stood in this field. Scene of heavy fighting, March 19. Destroyed on March 20 by Confederate artillery to prevent sniping.
 
Erected 1959 by Archives and Highway Commission. (Marker Number HHH-12.)

In March of 1865, the Cole Farmhouse stood at this location, but was destroyed by the Confederates during the Battle of Bentonville.
