end of Gibraltar Island next to a prominence known as "Perry's Lookout." This is the highest point of land in the vicinity and the spot from which Commodore Perry first saw British ships approaching from the west just before the Battle of Lake Erie occurred near West Sister Island, about 16 miles west of Gibraltar Island.
