1st Lieut. Henry S. Greaves,
2nd Lieut. R.H. Brown, 2d Lieut. W.G. Allen.
Nov. 25th, 1863, 4 P.M.
The battery came into position in rear of Adams' Brigade of Stewart's Div. after the general advance of the enemy had commenced about 3:45 P.M., and without defensive works of any character, opened the entire battery on the rapidly approaching lines, and continued to fire with great celerity and destructive effect, aided in temporarily checking the advance of the troops in its front till the ridge had been carried on the right and the enemy were rapidly approaching on that flank. Under these conditions, and with the enemy in front dangerously near the guns, and no reasonable prospect of checking his advance, the battery to avoid capture, withdrew with the loss of a few men and horses, but no guns, caissons or material.

Location. 35° 1.125′ N, 85° 15.827′ W. Marker is in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in Hamilton County. It is in Missionary Ridge. Marker is on South Crest Road south of East Main Street. In order to view this historical marker one must find a way to get to the crest of Missionary Ridge. The options to use in ascending Missionary Ridge are limited and difficult to locate if you are not familiar with the area. From downtown Chattanooga, I drove east to Missionary Ridge on Main Street, and using Main Street took me to the top of Missionary Ridge. Once at the top of Missionary Ridge I needed to make two right turns to get on South Crest Street and then go only a slight distance south to reach the Bragg Reservation which is where this historical marker is located. The historical marker is located on the south side of the entrance to the Bragg Reservation, just off of South Crest Road. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Chattanooga TN 37404, United States of America. Touch for directions.
