1. Governor Robert Wright Marker
Inscription. Born in Queen Anne's County, 1752, educated at Washington College. Rose to rank of captain in Revolutionary War. Served in State Assembly; elected to U.S. Senate 1801. Chosen 13th governor of Maryland 1806, twice re-elected, later member of U.S. Congress and Maryland Court of Appeals. Died 1826; buried at Cheston on the Wye.

Marker is on a private one lane road running through the Wye Research and Education Center that starts off Wye Narrows Lane, one tenth of a mile south of Cheston Lane.
