More about this marker. The monument initially was located in the central median of Main Street, the Town Green. When the western roadway was widened in the 20th century, the memorial was moved across the street to its present location.
The monument is a granite structure. When the original metal cannon deteriorated earlier in the 20th century, a wooden replacement was substituted. Now the cannon appears to be granite, similar to the stone of the monument.
