More about this marker. This is one in a series of granite markers placed by the J.E.B. Stuart Chapter of the Confederate Veterans sometime in the 1890s to commemorate significant Civil War actions around Clarke County.
 
Regarding Battle of Cool Spring. The stone commemorates the Battle of Cool Springs, an action associated with General Early's raid on Washington, D.C.

Looking downstream from Castleman's Road toward Parker's Ford. Federals attempted a full scale river crossing downstream from this point, near the present day Holy Cross Abbey.

Looking across the grounds of Holy Cross Abbey, near the site of the marker. Wharton's and Rodes' Confederate Divisions advanced through the fields here and met Thoburn's Federal Division at the ford site on the Shenandoah River.
