1. Pea Island Lifesavers Marker
Inscription. Only U.S. Lifesaving Station manned by black crew. Led by Richard Etheridge, 1880-1900. Operated near here.
 
Erected 2010 by North Carolina Office of Archives and History. (Marker Number B-66.)
 
Location. 35° 43.031′ N, 75° 29.634′ W. Marker is near Pea Island, North Carolina, in Dare County. Marker is on State Highway 12 14.2 miles south of South Virginia Dare Trail (U.S. 64), on the right when traveling south. Touch for map. Located at the Pea Island NWR Visitors Center. Marker is in this post office area: Rodanthe NC 27968, United States of America.
