Inscription. Canal and locks around river rapids completed 1834 by Roanoke Navigation Company. Highway crosses route of canal at this point.
 
Erected 1948 by Archives Conservation and Highway Departments. (Marker Number E-35.)
 
Location. 36° 25.681′ N, 77° 35.694′ W. Marker is in Weldon, North Carolina, in Halifax County. Marker is at the intersection of Sycamore Street (U.S. 158) and East 1st Street, on the right when traveling west on Sycamore Street. Touch for map.
