1. Warner's Ranch Marker
Inscription. In 1844, Gov. Manuel Micheltorena granted 44,322 acres to Juan Jose Warner who built this house. Gen. Kearny passed here in 1846; Mormon Battalion in 1847. First Butterfield Stage stopped at this ranch on Oct. 6, 1858 enroute from Tipton, Mo. to San Francisco; 2600 miles. Time 24 days. This was the southern overland route into California.
 
Erected 1964 by San Diego County Board of Supervisors and the Historical Markers Committee. (Marker Number 311.)
 
Marker series. This marker is included in the Butterfield Overland Mail, the Mormon Battalion, and the National Historic Landmarks marker series.
 
Location. 33° 14.536′ N, 116° 39.959′ W. Marker is near Warner Springs, California, in San Diego County. Marker is on San Felipe Road (County Highway 52 at milepost 0.7), on the right when traveling west. Touch for map.
