James Marion Sims, World Famed Physician, father of modern gynaecol'ogy, a blessing and a benefactor to women, was born in the farm house of his parents near this site January 25, 1813.

Doctor to empress and slave alike, founder of Women’s Hospital of the State of New York, Knight of the Legion of Honor of France, honored by European and American Governments, he died in the City of New York November 13, 1883
