Inscription. Built in 1871, just six years after the end of the Civil War, the Stanton Lodge and School enjoyed dual purposes from its beginning. Before the arrival of free public education, concerned Masons constructed the two-story building as a place to educate the community's young people, and they used the second floor for meetings. The building has accommodated a variety of community meetings since the county built a new school in 1920. Restoration of the Greek Revival building began in 1985.
