Inscription. First producer of hydroelectric power in North Carolina, April 20, 1898. Located 3 mi. S.W. at early ferry crossing.
 
Erected 1984 by NC Division of Archives and History. (Marker Number J-70.)

Location. 36° 0.725′ N, 80° 25.238′ W. Marker is in Clemmons, North Carolina, in Forsyth County. Marker is on U.S. 158, on the right when traveling east. Marker was located near the east end of Yadkin River bridge. Road was widened and no relocation of marker was apparent. Update (5/12/2012): Marker has been replaced and is now located on the west of the Yadkin River bridge. Touch for map. Marker is in this post office area: Clemmons NC 27012, United States of America.
